ODYSSEE PICTURES
A Texas Revolution

Odyssee Pictures is a Houston, Texas-based independent movie studio. It was originally founded in 2003 by writer/director Stacy Davidson to create the feature horror film Domain of the Damned (under the original working title "Necrophobia"), but since that time there have been several other exciting projects and many more to come.

In the beginning...

Domain of the Damned was written, directed, shot, edited and co-produced by Stacy Davidson, and produced by Leo D. Wheeler and Toni Munoz Kaufman of DBW Entertainment. It was privately funded and made with a microscopic crew, using local haunted house attractions and a handfull of small sets constructed in a tiny warehouse for locations. All of the film's special effects (practical and visual) were created by our in-house effects company, Visual Odyssee. When photography was completed, the film was edited, dubbed and mixed in-house as well. Domain of the Damned set the standard working pipeline for Odyssee Pictures: an independent movie studio that functions soley in Texas and handles every aspect of filmmaking in-house.

Odyssee Pictures has produced several music videos; War Cry for the Houston metal band Outworld, and Domain of the Damned title track "If Only" by Houston rock band Revolution. Stacy Davidson and Mike Oliver also recieved the Worldfest Gold Award for the industrial piece Red Rock, produced by Larry Czach of Zak Communications.

The two-day movie

In 2005, Morgan McCarthy produced a short film for Odyssee Pictures called Leiah which was written, directed, shot and edited by Stacy Davidson in a scant two days for the 48 Hour Film Project. The 2nd unit director/1st AD/Gaffer was David Gabriel. The film starred Katerina Pasat, Casey Waldner, Ben Warner and Ashley Heathcock.

Texas Frightmakers!

In 2006, Odyssee Pictures and Stacy Davidson became closely involved in an exciting and demented new horror/creature feature called Closet Space, with Davidson acting as Lighting Director and Visual Effects Supervisor, and Odyssee Visual handling visual effects (accompanied by practical effects by Florida-based Oddtopsy F/X). Co-written and directed by local Witchcraft 13 director Mel House, Closet Space will mark the first of many planned collaborations with Odyssee Pictures and Upstart Films.

Another 2006 milestone was the first annual Odyssee Film Festival. The event was held at the Alamo Drafthouse on Wednesday, June 7th, and was a wild success. In addition to a slew of old horror movie trailers and clips, the audience was treated to a series of top-notch indie horror shorts and two fantastic new features called Zzyzx and The Call of Cthulhu. In 2007, director Stacy Davidson and producer Laura Bryant teamed up for their first feature as a producer/director team, Sweatshop. Based on a Ted Geoghegan script, Sweatshop introduces a brutal new psycho splatter villain named only "The Beast", following his bloody exploits as he punishes a group of alternative-culture kids who have invaded his territory to throw an illegal rave. The film stars a cast of Texas horror veterines, and features effects from Kristi Boul, Marcus Koch and Mike Oliver. Principal photography wrapped in November.

2008 has been a whirlwind of horror conventions, along with pickup shots and post production for Sweatshop. In May, both Domain of the Damned and Sweatshop were featured in Fangoria Magazine, and Sweatshop has recieved coverage in most of the online websites as well. Stacy Davidson was also a guest on HorrorMovieFans Radio, and will return for another episode later this year along with at least one more convention appearence TBA.
