Thanks! Actually, Necrophobia was lit almost exclusively with 250-watt bulbs in hardware store clip-on lamps. We didn't even buy gels, we just air-brushed sheets of acetate with all sorts of funky colors.

Our short film, Leiah, was actually a bigger production, believe it or not. We had a couple of Arri 650s for that one, and a few smaller fill lights. As well as a propane fogger, a long shotgun mic w/ windscreen, a lav (remote) mic which we didn't even use, real gels, a generator, and all sorts of other cool items we never had on Necro.

I'm acting as Mel House's lighting director on Closet Space right now, and it's a whole new ballgame. I have more lights, scrims/diffusion, flags, and cookies than I know what to do with, and all the grips I need to set it all up. I even have a c-stand. It's enough to make you cry.

As far as camera goes, I shot Necro and Leiah on the Panasonic AG DVX-100 in 24p Advanced mode.

Yeah we rented all that stuff up at Texcam for Leiah. The Closet Space equipment, lickily, belongs to the director. The main thing is, if you don't own it, at least know where you can borrow it.

You can buy gels at Texcam at $5 a piece, if you just need a few. And they're huge, so you can probably get 4 out of each sheet if you're using small lights. Not too bad. If you're doing a big multi-colored movie, you might want to just go to a theatrical supply shop and get a gel pack. They usually run around $35.
