OK folks, I'm reporting to you live from the trenches of my editing room. The official state of Necro is that it is viewable in rough-cut form up until about 20 minutes from the end of the movie. The current running time is roughly 110 minutes, which is probably a bit long. I would count on a good 10-20 minutes hitting the ol' cutting room floor before the flick is done.
Mike is slaving over his computer as we speak, putting together some of the largest CG shots. This week we are finalizing a major fight scene featuring a CG enhanced creature. By this time next week the scene will be done and, with that creature out of the way, I'll be turning over several shots featuring our main 100% CG creature. The tests, quite frankly, knocked me out of my boots and left Leo standing there with a mighty big grin on his face. I can't wait to show everyone what Mike has accomplished. When he's done with the creature animation, he'll be moving on to a few background CG enhancement shots and a couple of scenes featuring complete CG environments. Keep in mind, Mike is doing all the modeling and animation. He IS the 3D team.
I've also started on looping. This is the process of recording the actors' dialogue over the original shots, usually because the sound wasn't the best, came out muffled, or had a large amount of background noise. And on Necro we had a lot of crazy days where we just had to say to hell with the boom, let's just shoot! So far we've gotten Sawyer (or Christin for her friends) and Nick done, and Jude came in for some of the fun but he has so much left to go... I mean a lot... like a smurf-kickin' shit ton.
We've done a lot of pick-up shooting in the past few months without the involvement of our usual comrades in arms like Melissa, Chris, the ever popular Spencer, and our ever loyal gang of zombies who keep showing up shoot after shoot. It's been on the lonely side, but ya gotta do whatcha gotta do. Anyway, since few people have been present to witness these shoots, here are a few screenshots.
That bad ass example of southern justice on the right is my buddy B.D. He was also featured in the Houston horror flick Mr. Hell. And by the way, he's holstering a REAL GUN kids!!
Behold the lair of the Angel of Death. You can see where he sits and tinkers on new and exciting ways to gut people! We shot this in an abandoned house that actually sits on the Phobia lot on HWY 290. Well that's where it sat anyway... last I checked Paul and his guys were getting a little bulldozer happy. You should see what's in that bathtub.
Careful Jude, there be zombies ahead! This was an ultra creepy Phobia shot that I conceived and storyboarded the night before, and then stumbled on this awesome hallway with strobe lights on the day of. Just goes to show you, ya gotta keep your eyes open kids!
Well that's all for now. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress...

| Congrats, Stacy. I can't wait to see it either, and I don't even like horror movies. (I know, it's just wrong.) (Yes, it's the obvious Tam here.) |

I don't think so. Were you? That was Jude's last day in Houston. A few days later, Leo and I met up with him in Austin and did some woods shots, and a final shot with him out on a road up in the hills. Good lord, talk about an amazing view. Afterwards, we all sat around up there and had cigars while I got a time-laps sunset shot. We talked about how strange it was that the movie shoot began with a shot of Jude on the road.. so long ago.. and now it had nearly come to an end.. with Jude.. walking along the road. Good times.

Thanks Mel! Mel here was actually running 2nd camera on a particularly big day of shooting.
Hey how's it coming with your next flick? Are you in prep, or shooting?

Witchcraft 13 still has one weekend left of shooting, but I'm getting married next week, so we are taking a break from production. After we do the big "cave finale" scene later in November, I'll be in post through the winter.
I have an idea for my next directing project, but before that I'll probably be DP-ing another horror flick in Chicago. The last one we did (Drawing Blood) just got picked up for distribution via Brain Damage pictures.
Keep me informed as to when you'll be screening Necrophobia.

Hey guys.. "after the big 'cave' finale".. sound familiar?
In our case, it wasn't the finale of the film that took place in a cave, more like the finale of our shooting schedule.
Awesome about your distribution! Gotta pick that up.

P.S.
Hey I'm finally getting around to cutting your footage today! Weird coincidence. |
