Witty hip-hop artist and quasi-diva impregnator K-Fed put it best when he said "y'all aint ready!" Indeed, the first annual Texas Frightmare weekend exploded onto the scene with huge horror personalities, tons of memorabilia, brand new visions of terror running constantly in the screening room, and two metal shows to top it off! Guests and venders included Odyssee Pictures with Necrophobia (of course!), Upstart Films with Witchcraft 13, Nott Entertainment with The Quick and the Undead, Sid and Ma Haig, Bill Mosely, Irwin Keyes, Debbie Rochon, Tom Savini, Joe Bob Briggs, Lloyd Kaufman & Troma Films, The Horror Channel, and believe me this list could go on and on and on.
The weekend was also a veritable parade of Houston, Dallas and Austin horror filmmakers. Necroscopic Films and the Necro Girls were there in full force, so naturally we felt quite at home. Also Representing Dallas were the Pot Zombies crew with a full screening of their inssssssane flick. Other screenings included Katy Bird, The Quick and the Undead and a 30-minute preview and Q&A session for Necrophobia. Houston was most definitely holding it down as well, with the Odyssee Pictures booth, proudly displaying Necrophobia footage and swag, and the Upstart Films booth which featured a Witchcraft 13 trailer and scream queen Anjanette Clewis signing memorabilia. And of course, the guys at Creatures of Earth/Rejected Films must have smelled the blood and come running. Can't keep those guys away from the biggest horror convention ever to hit Texas!
Odyssee Pictures must tip the ol' hat to Loyd Cryer and his awesome crew. Come hell or high water, we will certainly be back for the next one.
